She received her B.S. in chemistry from University of Santa Clara, Santa Clara, Ca. and her PhD is Physical Chemistry from the University of Delaware Newark, De studying ion molecule reactions using ion cyclotron mass spectrometry under the guidance of Professor Ridge. She has published over 60 peer reviewed papers, numerous book chapters and 3 books. Barbara has served as the chair for the Delaware Valley Mass Spectrometry Discussion Group as well as on the board of the American Society of Mass Spectrometry as the Treasure, Vice President of Programs and President. She has served on the editorial board for the Journal of American Society of Mass Spectrometry, A pages of Analytical Chemistry and is currently on the advisory board for Spectroscopy. She has received the Spectroscopist of the Year Award from the Society of Applied Spectroscopy, American Chemical Society Delaware Section Research Award and most recently the Pederson Research Award from DuPont. Barbara's research continues to be focused on development of sensitive ionization methods for structural elucidation of novel materials as well as the development of tools for a Systems Bioanalysis as an approach to understanding and optimizing fermentation processes.
Ron Majors: For nearly 25 years, Ronald E. Majors was employed by Hewlett-Packard/Agilent Technologies, working in the area of sample preparation and chromatography column technology. He retired in late 2013 but now serves as a consultant for Agilent under the banner of ChromPrep LLC. Prior to Agilent, Ron worked for Celanese, Varian and EM Science, now EMD Millipore. Ron received his B.S. in chemistry at California State University, Fresno and his Analytical Chemistry Ph.D. degree from Purdue University under the direction of L.B. Rogers. His Ph.D. thesis was in the area of molecular-imprinted phases for chromatography and sample preparation. He is the author of over 300 publications in HPLC, GC, sample preparation and surface chemistry. He has been an Editor for the monthly features, "Column Watch" and "Sample Preparation Perspectives" in LC/GC Magazine for 32 years. He also serves on its Editorial Board. As a lifetime member of The Chromatography Forum of Delaware Valley, he has served on the Executive Committee for many years and also was Program Chair and President. He was Chairman of HPLC 1986, on the Instrumentation Advisory Board of Analytical Chemistry, and served as President of the Chromatography Sub-Division of the Amer. Chem. Soc. Ron has received many chromatography awards, including the Chromatographic Society’s 2007 Martin Gold Medal from the United Kingdom, named for the Nobel Prize winner, A.J.P. Martin.
