Precipitation Reactions

  1. Dissolving and Ionic Solid
    1. Video (CD-ROM Internet)
    2. Animation (CD-ROM Internet)

  2. Solubility Rules

  3. Demo (silver nitrate and sodium chloride)

  4. Equations for Demo
    Dissociation
    AgNO3 (s) - > Ag1+ (aq) + NO31- (aq)
    NaCl s)- > Na1+ (aq) + Cl1- (aq)

    Balanced overall eqaution
    AgNO3 (aq) + NaCl aq) - > AgCl (s) + NaNO3 (aq)

    Total Ionic Equation
    Ag1+ (aq) + NO31- (aq) + Na1+ (aq) + Cl1- (aq) -> AgCl (s) + Na1+ (aq) + NO31- (aq)

    Net Ionic Equation
    Ag1+ (aq) + Cl1- (aq) -> AgCl (s)

  5. Identifying the Precipitate

  6. Example
