Infrared group frequencies assignment

Infrared spectroscopy is very useful for identifying functional groups present in a compound. Since the infrared absorption frequencies are determined by the bond strength, vibrational mode and the mass of the atoms, the frequencies are fairly constant for a given functional group. Use information from your textbook to determine what the characteristic group frequencies are for alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxilic acids, and aromatic compounds. Then examine the IR spectra of known compounds from A Spectrum of Spectra and identify the actual frequency of the corresponding absorption band. Tabulate your results.
