Course Description and Requirements.

 In the last past three decades, advances in the fields of cell and molecular biology have proceeded at “neck breaking” speeds.  Today, our new understanding of many aspects of cell function and our ability to manipulate their genetic content is being used in medicine, agriculture, criminal justice, the pharmaceutical industry and many other areas.  This seminar will examine the tremendous potential of various biotechnologies as well as the potential for their severe pitfalls.

Other Requirements.

       Attendance is required and will benefit your grade. Your grade for this course will be largely determined by your attendance and in-class work. This means coming to class on time prepared to work on the assigned tasks for that day. Two unexcused absences are allowed, more than this risks penalty. Reasons for excused absences and procedures for obtaining excuses are outlined in the student handbook.

      Each week you will be required tot a journal entry regarding your experiences during the past week (10points each). You will also write a paper and make an oral presentation.
